Our MissionWeekend Lunchbox is a volunteer-led ministry providing shelf-stable, easy-to-prepare food to food-insecure Hutto ISD children during the school year—sharing God’s love through practical care.
Hutto Discovery UMC is proud to lead the community's Weekend Lunchbox program, which aims to provide nutritious, shelf-stable, and easy-to-prepare food for children in food-insecure households within Hutto ISD. This collaborative community initiative focuses on combating hunger on weekends and holidays among students identified as homeless according to the federal McKinney-Vento Act guidelines.
Impact Highlights
WELB continues to bridge the weekend hunger gap for our local students. During the 24-25 Hutto ISD school year, we distributed 1,176 sacks of groceries, providing essential nutrition when school meals were unavailable. For the 25-26 school year, we increased the numbers of bags distributed by over 50%, serving 1830 bags to up to 75 students each week.
Currently, WELB serves 75 students each week, ensuring they return to the classroom on Monday nourished, focused, and ready to learn. This consistent outreach is a testament to the strength of our partners and the unwavering generosity of the Hutto community. |
Donations Welcome |
Each bag will contain at least 8 items, including 2 breakfast, 4 entrees, a fruit and a vegetable. Additional items will be included for holiday bags. We are currently collecting specific items to directly benefit our Weekend Lunchbox program. While brand preferences aren't strict, we do have requirements for the contents, size, and form of the donations. We are looking for pre-packaged, individual, single-serving sizes of the following items. Donations can be placed in the WELB bins located both outside the main entrance and inside the lobby at our Discovery Center at 350 Ed Schmidt Blvd.
