Rev. Changsu Kim, Senior Pastor
Pastor Changsu comes to us from the Great Plains Conference where he served 5 years as Senior Pastor at Shawnee UMC in the greater Kansas City metroplex. Born and raised in South Korea, he has lived in the United States since 2009, faithfully serving as lead pastor at several United Methodist Churches across Kansas City and helping to foster growth in church membership, community engagement and mission. This experience is a tremendous asset to our church!
Pastor Changsu is passionate about preaching, pastoral care, and equipping the church to be a vibrant, missional presence in the community. He finds great joy in building relationships, sharing stories of faith, and witnessing God's love in everyday life. As a church-grower, he uses his gift of storytelling to inspire, connect, and cultivate transformative leadership. His leadership extends beyond the local church. In 2014, he was among the first ordinands as a provisional elder in the newly formed Great Plains Conference. A decade later, in 2023, he was elected chair of the Board of Ordained Ministry, becoming the first international pastor to hold the position. Having served on BoOM for nearly a decade, he is committed to making the ordination process more inclusive and encouraging for those called to ministry.
Pastor Changsu met his wife, Sue, in college at Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea where they both graduated. Pastor Changsu later earned a degree from St. Paul School of Theology and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Ministry at Drew University, focusing on leadership development within the United Methodist Church. Pastor Changsu and Sue are blessed with two wonderful children: 16-year old Irene, a talented trumpet player, and 12-year-old Joshua, a dedicated martial artist with a black belt in Taekwondo. Four years ago, they welcomed a puppy named Cherry, who has since become a beloved member of their home. As a family, they enjoy camping, fishing, and traveling to new places.
