Mark 10:13-31
You don’t need me to tell you that during this COVID-19 pandemic, we have all learned some valuable lessons. It’s now been a full year that I’ve been working from home, picking up my groceries curb-side, and waving “hi” to friends over zoom for baby showers. As I think back to a year ago there are so many emotions that come to mind and I bet you felt them too. I think back to last April when my husband was facing a potential lay-off from his job (as too many others have similarly faced).

I think back to last April when my husband was facing a potential lay-off from his job (as too many others have similarly faced).
Immediately I started worrying and playing the worst-case scenario in my head. How would we pay our mortgage? How would we buy food? etc. Then, in the middle of my worry, remember taking a step back, taking a deep breath. A feeling of calm came over me. Even in the worst-case scenario, things are only things and God is still good. It would be well with my soul. I love how much deeper we understand this after the year we have had. I love that we get to see a physical manifestation of letting material things or habits go during Lent every year.
Dear God,
Thank you for providing this time for us to step back from all the “things” in our lives and remember why You sent your son for us. Please help us remember that our lives extend far beyond our worldly possessions and to focus on You, especially during this season.
Amen
