Mark 1:16-34
When Jesus said, "Come, follow me", Simon and Andrew dropped what they were doing and followed him. This passage from Mark 1:16-20 where Jesus calls and gathers the disciples is fundamental to the message Jesus brought to us: Follow me, because “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." (John 11:25) Wow! It doesn't get better than that!

I know God has called me many times over the years, but my most consequential "call" happened when I was not quite 50-years-old. It was actually me who “initiated the call." I asked, "What if I went to work for you, God?" A couple of weeks later an opportunity to serve in a Christian organization was offered to me and I accepted! Don't hesitate to "accept the call."

Mark 1:35-12:12
God of Desert Places,
When times are tough and I feel like giving up, help me to remember to turn to you. When I feel my prayers seem to go unanswered, when I lose hope, when I lose strength remind me that you are with me in this barren place. I will keep praying to you, I will keep talking to you, because I know you are listening! When my life feels like a dry and barren desert, when I feel powerless and alone, hear my prayers and guide me over these obstacles. Help me to trust in your faithful love. I truly believe that you have a plan for me and it is not in this desert place. So although I may be mad at you in the moment, I will not lose faith in you. Thank you for your love for me and your grand design for my life. AMEN.

Mark 2:13-28
Dear God,
Please help us see your goodness and your glory in new ways throughout this season of Lent. May we know the depths of your love for us more fully. May we feel the pain you endured for our sake and may we rejoice knowing you conquered every bit of death when you rose to life again. Draw us closer to your heart so that we might know you better and understand you more completely. All these things we ask in your name. Amen.
