Mark 3:1-19
When reading the scripture from Mark, I am reminded that Jesus wasn’t bogged down in the laws of the day. Laws are important, but righteousness is better. Lent is a time to turn our focus to God and away from worldly (temporary) things. As I “try” to do just that, I find it necessary to know the heart of God….what makes Him happy….what breaks His heart? I want my heart to be aligned with His.

In today’s scripture, the Pharisee’s were looking for a reason to convict Jesus, and in this instance, it was for healing on the Sabbath. But Jesus wanted to know which was better….to do good or to do evil…no matter what day of the week.
Obeying the law is good, but pursuing righteousness and justice is better. To know the difference in some situations may require a significant amount of discernment, and the way to finding an answer in the midst of that discernment is to know, and be in sync with, Jesus. Therefore, this Lenten season, will you join me in pursuing Jesus and His ways? Wanting to be more like Christ by knowing Him better and knowing His heart?
Prayer: Gracious and Loving God, thank you for sending your son, Jesus Christ, so that we might have eternal life. Sending your son was the ultimate example of showing us your heart and how much you love us. Help us to lean into you this Lenten season and be ambassadors who shine your light in this broken world.
